One University United Together for Graduation Commencement Exercises
Graduation is that final celebration of success for students who have completed all of their academic requirements. Graduation occurs every term. This term’s Graduation will be on Sunday, June 22, 2008. This is a time of tradition and celebration for the whole DeVry community.
Congratulations!
You have demonstrated your skill, your knowledge and your commitment. It is all going to pay off now as you walk across the stage in front of the faculty, staff, family and friends in order to receive your degree. Everyone at DeVry University is very proud of you. So to make sure graduation goes smoothly the following information will help you prepare for the big day!
Important Information
This is your big day to celebrate your success so prepare in advance.
If you believe you are graduating or wish to participate in Graduation please see the Registrar’s Office (SAC-114). Please pick up an application from Career Services (SAC – 213). If you do not receive a graduation application packet and believe you should be graduating, please verify your graduation status with the Registrar’s Office (SAC-114) and pick up the application and graduation information from Career Services (SAC-213)
WHEN?
Graduation for Spring 2008 will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 2:00pm.
Graduates should arrive for preparation by 2:00pm.
Guests may arrive no earlier than 2:00pm.
The Graduation Processional will start promptly at 3:00pm.
WHERE?
Graduation will be held at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. No tickets are required for your guests.
The UIC Pavilion is located at 525 S. Racine, Chicago, IL 60607
Parking is available at the site and will cost approximately $20.00.
Requirements
A graduation/diploma application needs to be filed by Friday, May 30, 2008 and a $60.00 graduation fee must be paid at that time. Applications can also be picked up in Career Services (SAC-213).
Use the Graduation Application Checklist to be sure you have completed all of the required tasks
DVUC (Center) students and Online students can pay the DeVry Chicago’s Financial Services Office (SAC – 204) only if you have chosen our campus to graduate from. You must also contact the Campus you wish to graduate from. You will need to provide a copy of your receipt and file a campus application. If you have question or need assistance contact Trudie Williams (773) 697-2077. All graduating students must apply for graduation and their diploma.
The records office also approves students for graduation so if you have questions regarding your status, contact the Registrar’s Office (SAC-214) – Betty Lukas at (773) 697-2062.
Finally, the name on your diploma will be what we have on record, if there are mistakes or corrections to be made visit the Registrar’s Office (SAC-214).
All graduating student must meet with their Career Services Advisor SAC Room 213 and make sure that you register your information with the office regarding your job search status.
Please make sure all your financial obligations are resolved. Student Financial Services will be having meetings in classes, but if you miss that session or have questions go to Financial Services (SAC-204) to verify your status. All potential graduates must have an “Exit Interview” with Financial Services. Financial Services will inform you of dates and times via mail.

Caps & Gowns, Class Rings, Diploma Frames, Announcements, & More
Caps and Gowns, have been a tradition in higher education as recognition for student success and awareness of program for some time. DeVry works with outside vendors to provide students with quality regalia for the day of commencement.
Tassels should either match the degree color or be black. Each degree is represented by different colors (see above).
Jostens is our Regalia & Memorabilia provider this term.
They have some wonderful items to share with family and friends as a reminder of your graduation.
Jostens can be contacted 2 ways:

Pictures
DeVry University has professional photographers come to graduation.
At Graduation individual pictures include receiving the diploma and after walking off the stage.
Students will receive a free passport-size photo 2-3 weeks after graduation for ordering.
One of the pictures will be of you as you receive your diploma.

Expectations & Graduation Night Reminders
There will be electricity in the air. Students, Administration, Family and Friends will all be very excited. The evening will last approximately 3 ½ - 4 hours. There will be several things each of can do to make sure the evening is an excellent celebration of success for everyone.

Graduates should arrive at 2:00pm for preparation and pictures. Guest should not arrive prior to 2:00pm and will not be allowed in during the processional. The Ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00pm.
Please make sure you bring all of your regalia (cap, gown, and tassel).
There will not be extra regalia at graduation unless you purchase it through Jostens.

Honor cord if applicable will be given to you during Senior Days - there will not be extras at graduation.

There will be a professional photographer taking pictures of graduation including receiving your diploma.

Please remind guests to remain seated while taking pictures and videos and to remain seated during the processional and recessional.
Aisles must remain clear at all times for safety reasons.

Verify the spelling of your name on the name card and write out the pronunciation of your name on your card. Name cards will be at the Graduation Site.

Please have guests hold purses, pagers, cell phones, backpacks and make sure all (Graduates and Guests’) electronics are off or on vibrate mode. We do not have a secure place to watch your valuables.

Diplomas will be mailed 6-8 weeks after graduation.

Guests and graduates not behaving in an appropriate way or not following policies and procedures may be asked to leave the graduation ceremony.
